Calling All Writers!!

So, I am applying to be on Timpview's writing staff for the school newspaper The Thunderbolt. We have to fill out a pretty big application (which I've done). My one problem is the last thing on the list. I need to write a legit article and turn it in. My problem isn't the writing part, no, I have no idea what to write about! I need your suggestions. Anything would help! Thank you!

Good for you, Michaela! When I taught journalism and was the newspaper advisor, I always asked my students to read the newspapers and be aware of what was going on in our world. Check The Daily Herald or Deseret News. World News and Local News sections might give you some ideas. Find a subject that sparks your interest. Perhaps a bill that is being considered in the Legislature that concerns teens, or humanitarian efforts in Haiti and now Chile. Good luck.

Most definitely something you are interested in. If you aren't interested in it, you are going to have a killer boring time writing it. I'd suggest looking through a newspaper and getting some ideas, see what jumps out at you, what makes you want to write a rebuttal or follow up.

Good luck! And good for you!
